Good afternoon. I am honored to bel here. Korea University is world-renowned for its academic excellence and outstanding faculty and students-that's you guys. I have to saym when I was told that your courses were taught in Englishm I was really impressed. It's tough enough to be in graduate school, as you all are, at a top-notch university that's very difficult, but even more so if you have to study full-time in a second laguage.
Tere are benefits to being fluent in more than one language. i am going to try an Amerecan joke in English. If you don't understand it, you should laugh anyway to make me feel good. If you are really quiet, I'll just go on and act like you didin't understand me. You may konw the story of the mouse who wanted to go out to get something to eat, but the mouse was afraid there was a cat outside. Of course, cats eat mice. So the mouse put his ear to the opening of his little moust hole and he geard a dog barking -- Bow Wouw. "Hmmmm," said th mouse, "Well, there can't be a cat out there because there's a big old dog, and cats are afraid dogs." So, the mouse confedntly went out of his little mouse hole and was promptly eaten by a big old cat, who simply licked his lips and said, "It's good to be bilingual and speak both cat and dog!" I have no doubt that you too willl meet great success your bilingual capavility in both Korean and English.
Seriously, your choice to study here at this great university is a testament to your dedication, confidence and ambition to become future, global leaders in your respective fields of study. So, I must admit that I'm a little daunted by the intellectual fier-power that's in theis room and that is you........ |
